Gianni Schicchi 1986

In Spring Semester we did a double bill of Puccini's Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicci with David Gately guest directing. They are actually like two one-act operas, and originally they were performed with another one, Il Tabarro, as part of what was called Il Trittico.

I was cast as Marco in Gianni Schicchi and as part of the design concept the director and costumer wanted me and the woman playing my wife Ciesca, Cheryl Johnson, to be tall and skinny (which I am neither). So they gave us these elaborate headpieces which you can see in the picture below (You can imagine what my castmates were calling me) – not to mention a long nose and weird character makeup. My friend, Matt Eisenberg, was playing Dottore Spinelloccio.
